About

about blair

Blair Borland is a veteran musician and composer for film, TV, and video games based in Los Angeles. He has composed for major video game titles including Apex LegendsWatchdog Legion, and was the featured guitarist in Wilbert Roget's orchestral fusion score for Mortal Kombat. Blair created a Classic Rock inspired score for the indie film Woodstock or Bust, starring Willow Sheilds (The Hunger Games), which won Best Picture at the Los Angeles International Film Festival.

For Blair, music is a life long pursuit, but film is a lasting passion. By the age of 14, he was touring the country playing guitar and performing with bands twice his age. They would entertain themselves on the road by watching films for days at a time. Eventually, in the off hours of studying music at the Tacoma School of the Arts high school, near Seattle Washington, he tried to see one film every day while staying out of the rain, and watched over 700 movies in high school alone. Since, his tastes have expanded even more, and has watched every movie to ever win Best Picture with his wife Rosemary, a novelist and screenwriter.

After high school, it didn’t take too long to figure out what his path should be. Blair applied for a Masters degree program in Valencia, Spain with Berklee College of Music. Tensions were high as he applied on the last day of the deadline. There was only one spot left. Out of hundreds of applicants, he got it.

For one year, Blair and Rosemary lived abroad, dove deeply into their crafts, ate incredible food, spoke Spanish very poorly, and watched as many films as they could get their hands on. After honing his craft and writing for and recording ensembles like the London Symphony Orchestra in his masters program, Blair moved into composing professionally.

what people say

"He is an enormously gifted composer, his music production knowledge is first  rate, with the technical foundation and an innate understanding of 'picture sense', the ineffable quality a composer for the moving image must possess to be able to watch footage and craft music that will complement it and accentuate it, not merely wallpaper it with sound that will serve little emotional effect. That he does this with his characteristic good nature and an unassailable positivity even under the pressure of these size projects is critical."

- Stephen Barton, Composer - Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and Composer for Hans Zimmer's Remote Control Productions

"[A] true artist, master storyteller and ultimate collaborator you are.  Thank you for lending your gifts to this project. Wow!"

- C.G., Editor - Mad Men, CSI: NY, 12 Monkeys

"The music propelled every moment it surrounded and gave exceptional life and depth to the scenes where it was utilized."

- Z.L., Editor, VFX - Glory Road, ParaNorman, Coraline
